A drunk Morgan Wallen stumbled onto the balcony of a bar and hurled a chair to the street below, nearly hitting a police officer. Later, the owner of the bar, country artist, Eric Church, said it was “a good thing” for Wallen.
Maybe that’s because Wallen’s latest album includes a track seemingly inspired by the incident. “Number 3 and Number 7” featuring Eric Church adventures into the danger of drinking and driving.
With chaotic life experiences like these, you might expect Wallen to have a lot of wild and diverse content on his new album. You’d be wrong.
Morgan Wallen’s newest and longest album, I’m The Problem, features a staggering 37-tracks in a blend of country and pop filled with love, heartache and self-reflection. However, out of 37 tracks, only a handful of songs stand out, and the rest are nothing special. Most of his feature songs are good, but his singles offer nothing new.
Within the first week of being released, I’m the problem became the most streamed country album of 2025. Now sitting at the top of the Billboard 200’s for two weeks straight after the first week.
There were high expectations for the I’m The Problem with Morgan Wallen’s last two albums ‘Dangerous’ in 2021 and ‘One thing at a time’ in 2023 still sitting 10th and 4th respectively on the Billboard 200s.
The expectation quickly fell back to reality with the album falling flat compared to his last two.
The album feels safe. Wallen doesn’t innovate on his sound or his lyrical content. The album opens with “I’m The Problem” — a heartfelt song about breakups, setting a depressing tone for the album and rehashing familiar themes from his past releases. But if you are one of the greatest country superstars with a big following, you don’t have to change much of your music. His usual piano, guitar and drums create the signature tones on the album that Morgan Wallen fans have learned to love.
The solo tracks are good but the collaborations in the album are great. He works with Post Malone on “I Ain’t Coming Back” and up and coming star Tate McRae on ‘What I Want’. He also has songs with rock country star Hardy and country artist Ernest, known for blending country music with hip-hop.
The track “Superman” is his first song written for his son. In it, he compares himself to the DC superhero as a father figure to his son. “I’ve tried so many times to write a song like that for him, and it always fell flat,” says Morgan Wallen. “I also didn’t want to write a song to him that was all sappy and slow, and just what you would expect a dad’s son song to be. That song has been written plenty enough.”
“Working Man’s Song” explores the struggles of making a living in America and even comparing it to dying and being in jail for “25 to life”. It feels a bit strange coming from a multi-millionaire country star.
Morgan Wallen will be touring I’m The Problem starting June 20th in Houston, Texas and ending the tour in Toronto, Edmonton and even going to the UK for his last show in Newcastle.
If you didn’t like Morgan Wallen music before, this album will not make you change your mind.
At the end of the day, Morgan Wallen “just want[s] to make music [that] people like” and whether you love it or hate it, this album is going to be at the top of the country charts for a while.
