A majority of Republicans now support legalized marijuana

Fifty-one percent of Republicans now support the legalization of medical marijuana, according to the new poll by Gallup. This is a nine point increase in the percentage of Republicans who support legalized marijuana. This is surprising because Republicans have been opposed to it for so long.

Sixty-four percent of Republicans want the legalization of marijuana. Most Democrats have supported making marijuana legal since 2009, but a majority of Americans have only shown support for it since 2013.

Sixty nine percent of Canadians say they support the legalization of marijuana and only twenty-six percent of Canadians oppose the idea. In Canada, the government has promised to make it legal by July 1st, 2018. Canada will be leaving the international narcotics treaties by July 2018 due to the legalization.

One of the factors behind the increasing support for marijuana legalization is that people now know some of the health benefits. This is an positive step in the medical world because it’s important for people to get the treatment they need. More people in the world will get access to medical marijuana for tonic-clonic seizures and other diseases or mental health issues.
