With the Christmas season arriving, you’ll begin to see people stumbling down the streets, with their hands full of shopping bags and scribbled-over gift lists. Not to mention all the gift wrapping at home that never seems to end and the endless get togethers with family and friends.
When it comes to gifts, we usually find ourselves stumped on what to give as the perfect something that doesn’t exceed the budget so here is a great solution: make peppermint bark! Peppermint bark is a gift I love to give and that my family and friends love to recieve. The sweet, creamy, rich treat with a hint of mint is perfect on a cold winter’s day. Not only can you just eat it on its own, you can put it in hot milk to make a peppermint hot chocolate, mix it in with cookie dough, add it to ice cream, make peppermint bark s’mores, or use it in a Christmas trail mix. This recipe is not only something that everyone loves, peppermint bark is the perfect gift and treat to satisfy your sweet tooth!
Peppermint Bark
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
300 grams of white chocolate
300 grams of 70% or less dark chocolate
4 candy canes, crushed
2 teaspoons of peppermint extract (optional)
Step 1: Melt your white chocolate in a double boiler. Once it is melted remove the bowl from the heat and let it slightly cool.
Step 2: Repeat Step 1 with the dark chocolate.
Step 3: Lightly grease a flat 9 x 13 inch, refrigerable pan with non-stick baking spray.
Step 4: If you choose to add peppermint extract, add 1 teaspoon of extract into each bowl of chocolate, slowly add it in and mix well.
Step 5: Once the chocolates are ready, pour about ¾ of your melted dark chocolate to make the first layer and let it set in the pan for 2 minutes.
Step 6: Pour in your melted white chocolate and let it set in the pan for 2 minutes, but not completely harden.
Step 7: Pour in your remaining dark chocolate and use a toothpick or an object with a fine point to swirl it into the white.
Step 8: Sprinkle your candy cane pieces over the top of your bark.
Step 9: Let it cool in the refrigerator for 2 hours or until it is completely hardened.
Step 10: Break your bark into unique and irregular shapes and sizes!
Your peppermint bark is now finished! It’s time to package it all up and put it underneath the tree or bring it to one of those many get togethers for a sweet treat! To make an unbelieveably cute gift, put it in a gift box and place a little bow on top to make it all come together. The lucky person who gets this gift will definitely not be disappointed with the flavor and texture of this super easy and fun to make dessert!
