A poem for Valentines Day

Unrequited Love

You occupy my thoughts most of the day

You, who are so exemplary,

tucked alongside painted colours and the beating of my heart.

I observe you from afar.

Your innocent smile makes me whole.

It’s the small things I notice about you –

the small things that make me go head over heels –

A few strands of golden brown hair lay across your pretty face,

your face held in your palms when you sit patiently in class.

Most days I purposely walk past you

Hoping you’d notice me in the three blinks

and three heartbeats we have in those mere seconds.

If the secrets people never tell are hidden anywhere, it’s in your eyes.

And when ours meet, everything makes sense.

You had me in your hands at a single glance.
