On October 16th, 5 teens in Flint, Michigan, throwing rocks off of an overpass, fatally injured 32-year-old Kenneth White. White was in the passenger seat of his friend’s car getting a ride home from work, when a rock thrown off of the overpass by one of the teens, struck and punctured the car killing him. The teens, aged 15-17, have been charged as adults. Only one teen threw the rock; however, each of the five teens has been charged with one count of 2nd degree murder.
The incident has left White’s family in shock. White was engaged and the father of a 5-year-old son. White’s fiance told CNN in an interview, “he keeps asking about his daddy and to tell him he is not coming back has been so hard. I try to explain. He’s so young he’s only 5 he doesn’t understand.”
The five teenagers, are saying that this was “just a prank” and “they had no intention of hurting anyone.”
They were each tried and pleaded guilty to one count of second degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. It is believed by investigators that the 17 year old among them was responsible for throwing the rock that killed Kenneth White.
White’s family has started a donation page to help with funeral costs. The page has raised 50,000 dollars in donations towards the goal of 70 000 dollars.
These five teenage boys with their whole lives ahead of them made a decision to do something that ended up killing someone and possibly putting them in jail for the rest of their lives.
