Real Madrid was eliminated in the round of 16 of the Champions League. This result was disappointing because they won it last year. Real Madrid’s manager, Zinedine Zidane and the president, Florentino Pérez Rodríguez feel dissatisfied, and Pérez is planning to open his wallet in this summer’s transfer. They have their eyes set on the three top players in the English Premier League which include Eden Hazard, Christian Eriksen, and Paul Pogba.
Because Cristiano Ronaldo transferred to Juventus F.C. last season, Real Madrid needs a wing forward who can replace him. Zidane wants to scout Hazard as the new wing forward in the next season. Zidane thinks Tottenham’s Eriksen and Manchester United’s Pogba can also contribute Real Madrid’s midfielder line with their passing skills. Sports media in Spain are predicting that Real Madrid will spend about €540 million euros ($800 million dollars) buying new players this year. The transfer of these players will have a huge impact on both Real Madrid and the players’ current teams.
Among the three of them, Real Madrid wants Hazard the most. Hazard himself also has said that Real Madrid is his dream team. In an interview with Daily Mail, he said, “I have made my decision but it is not just about me. I told the club a couple of weeks ago. I wanted it to be cleared up earlier but that’s not happened. I’m still waiting, like the fans are waiting.” Real Madrid had given Chelsea many offers, and eventually, Chelsea made an agreement to sell him at 100 million euros (about $150 million Cdn) on June 6. Considering that Hazard’s contract only has a year left, Real Madrid did not want to spend a lot of money, but the reason why Chelsea was offering a huge amount of money is that Hazard was the best player (16 goals and 15 assists) in Chelsea last season. It’s no exaggeration to say that he gave Chelsea the UEFA Europa League trophy. Hazard joined Chelsea in 2012, and he has played 352 games and scored 110 goals for the team. Chelsea fans are sad that one of Chelsea’s legendary players is leaving the team. At the same time, the new wing forward of Chelsea, Christian Pulisic, is getting lots of attention from Chelsea fans.
It may be good for Manchester United to sell Pogba if they can get a lot of money. Manchester United had the worst season ever. Many Manchester United’s fans want him to leave the team, and even Pogba himself wants to be on a different team as well. Although the manager of Man U, Ole Gunnar Solskjær, wants him to stay for the next season, Pogba seems to have already made up his mind. According to reports in France, he told his teammates that he would not stay with Man U. The soccer fans are paying attention to whether Pogba, who played poorly in England, will change his uniform for a Spainish one. Manchester United is planning to offer his transfer fee at €144 million ($216 million). Man U fans are wondering what players the team will spend this money on.
Christian Eriksen is also a player of great interest to Zidane. Eriksen has mentioned that he wants to make a new challenge, and Tottenham also plans not to block his transfer as long as the transfer fee is met. However, everything is actually up to whether Pogba will transfer or not. Pogba is the midfielder Zidane wants as the top priority. Real Madrid and Juventus are currently competing for the transfer of Pogba. If Juventus succeeds in transferring Pogba or Pogba stays at Man U, Eriksen’s chances of making Real Madrid could be increased. Last season, while Tottenham’s striker, Harry Kane and their midfielder, Dele Alli were injured, Eriksen and Son Heung-min contributed greatly for the team’s fourth-place in Premier League and second place in the Champions League. If Eriksen leaves the team this summer, Tottenham needs find a new playmaking midfielder for their next season.
The leagues are finished, and the summer transfer is coming. There are some players that have already decided whether to stay or leave their teams, but we are not sure yet what decisions the teams, managers, and the players will make. We will see how it works out and what interesting decisions they will make.
